The Community Connect Scheme is a central government funded concession that provides discounted fares on public transport for Community Services Card (CSC) holders, children and young people.

If you have a Community Service Card, you can pre-apply now for your concession.

How do I apply?

Online. Concessions need to be loaded on to a Bee Card. If you have a current CSC and a Bee Card, you can apply for your Community Connect concession online at the Beecard website 

If you do not have a Bee Card, a free one is available from the Bee Card website – and you can apply for your Community Connect concession at the same time.

In person. If you prefer to apply in person, you can visit Rose Street bus station in Whangārei.

By phone. If you prefer to call, you can ring 0800 002 004 and ask for assistance from the Transport team.

During your application on the Bee Card website you will be guided through the process online – once a successful application is complete, you will clearly see a success message displayed on screen.

You can also log into the Bee Card website and check your concession yourself – once loaded, your Bee Card will show a Community Connect concession on the Manage Card page.

By phone: call 0800 002 004 and ask for assistance with Community Connect from the Transport team. Our  team will help you with completing a form. You will need your Bee Card if you have one, and your Community Services Card.

In person: come to Rose Street bus station, Whangārei, and our Liaison Officer will assist you with a form. You will need your Bee Card if you have one, and your Community Services Card.

No problem, you can apply for a free Bee Card and the Community Concession together. You can do this online at https://beecard.co.nz/CommunityConnect or call 0800 002 004 and ask for assistance with Community Connect from the Transport team.

If one or more of these cardholders has a current Community Services Card, they can apply for the Community Connect Concession to be loaded to their Bee Card

A Bee Card account can have multiple cardholders against it.

If you travel mostly off peak in your region you are best sticking with the SuperGold Bee Card which entitles you to free off peak travel. If you travel mostly in peak times, with little off peak travel, you may want to have two Bee Cards to receive both discounts – you cannot have two discounts on one Bee Card, so you must get an additional Bee Card.

No. Only the Community Services Cardholder is eligible for the concession on their own registered Bee Card.

No other family members are eligible unless they also have a Community Services card under their own name. They should apply for the Community Connect concession on their own registered Bee Card.

No. The Community Connect concession expires at the same time your Community Services Card expires.

You can renew the concession online when you get a new Community Services Card by logging into your account, going into the card you wish to renew the concession on, and reapplying for Community Connect.

Yes, you do need to reapply to get the new Community Services Card expiry date to apply to your concession.
