CityLink fares are changing for children & young people – 1 May 2024
The government has announced that public transport fares are changing. This change will happen on 1 May 2024.
Before 1 May 2024 Community Connect concessions still apply, so children under 12 are free and young people aged 12-24 travel for half price.
After 1 May 2024, CityLink will go back to flat fares:
- Infants 0-4 years old – FREE
- Children 5-18 years – $1
- Adult 18 years and over – $2
The easiest way to pay on CityLink buses is with a Bee Card. You can get one online at Beecard website or come to the Rose Street bus office.
If your tamariki use a Bee Card, remember it may need topping up before the changes on 1 May.
Community Service Card holders and SuperGold Card holders are unaffected by the changes.
Rose Street bus hub upgrade – Stage 2
The next phase of the Rose Street bus station upgrade is on its way!
Stage 1 was completed in July 2022, with new bus shelters, safer pedestrian access and new bus stops.
Stage 2 is to demolish the existing bus hub buildings and replace them with new public toilets, staff facilities, ticketing office and covered seating area. A new pedestrian link between Rose and Vine Streets will provide a safer connection into the city centre. The new bus hub facilities will improve user experience and encourage new users onto public transport.
The upgrade is funded by Waka Kotahi, with the works carried out by Whangārei District Council, working with Northland Regional Council. You can find more info at WDC website.
